Issue 011: The Boring Stuff Changes Everything

I wrote this note for myself last Sunday night.

I felt the creep of complexity entering my life again.

I have way too many interests. Way too many influences in my life continuously clouding what I need to do.

But like i said in issue 009. You already know what you need to do.

This is what I knew I needed to do:

Sleep 7+ hours

Wake up at 4:30

Workout - lift, run or intervals

Sauna

90% whole foods

500 calorie deficit

1 gallon of water

Learn something new

Work hard on what’s important

Be the father and husband you want to be remember as

And listen to great music while you do it.

It sounds boring, but focusing on these simple human tasks lead to feeling amazing going into this weekend.

I was present with my wife and kids. I hit the gym 3 times and ran for real 2x for the first times since the Ironman. I love the sauna, so that was my reward and motivation for getting out of bed in the mornings.

Eating good foods left me feeling great. I worked hard on what I deem important and I listened to some great music which kept me going.

What I didn’t do was scroll social media, watch YouTube, or fill my head with more noise.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate or hard.

Make it easy. Make it fun. Make it so you don’t mind repeating.

Because most of the time, a good life is built by doing the obvious things well.

From the blog…

Stop Drifting

Write the rules that will keep you from ruining your own life.
